Columbia Basin defeated Blue Mountain in a pair of Saturday games by scores of 15-5 and 9-1.
Sierra Escalera and
Anna-Marie Shaffer both earned wins on the day with 2 spectacular outings.
GAME 1
The bats were alive for sophomore day as Basin scored 15 in the first game.
Bree Waldron kicked off the scoring with an RBI double before
Raquel Palmeira's sac fly made it 2-0 in the first. The T-wolves were on the board in the second with just one run making it 2-1.
Kaylie Christopher got that run right back with a solo blast in the bottom of the frame.
It was Christopher again in the third with a big 3-run homer run extending the lead to 7-1. One hiccup in the fourth saw Blue cut the lead to 7-5 but the offense would pick Escalera back up on the day. a huge fourth inning saw Basin plate 8 runs including both a home run and double from
Lauryn Krick who drove in 4 of the 8 runs before closing the game out in the circle tossing 1 and a third of no-hit ball to close it out for the win.
GAME 2
Shaffer turned in her best performance of the year in Game 2 as the Hawks held Blue to just one run in the contest. She with 4 innings, the lone run and 5 strike outs to tally the win.
Palmeira lead the scoring off with an RBI single in the first. A solo home run from Waldron in the 3rd pushed the lead to 2-1 and from there, the Hawks would not look back.
Vivian Pimentel struck in the 4th with and RBI before
Payton Dressler's RBI single in the 5th capped a 3-run inning. In the bottom of the 6th,
Stephanie Bryson doubled in a run setting up Krick for the game-ending 2-run home run.Â
The two wins unofficially make CBC the 10 seed heading into the NWAC tournament where they will open play against regional opponent Treasure Valley in double-elimination play.
