Columbia Basin defeated South Puget Sound in the NWAC opener 6-1. Six different Hawks found the back of the net on the day with
Alex Martinez capping the day with number 6.
After an unfortunate result in the 2023 Final Four, CBC was back on the hunt to open 2024. It was the Clippers that came out aggressive to start the match but
Julio Andrade got loose on a deep pass in the 3rd minute to strike early for Basin. Passing was not at its best early as the half carried on for 30 minutes until the second unit for CBC got going.
Rudy Silva fired one off through traffic to increase the lead to 2. The Hawks began to insert their rotations as they finally figured out their plan of attack.
Rafael Lucio added another in the 34th minute from
Alejandro Morales to take a 3-0 lead in the half.
Outside of halftime, backup keeper
Caleb Coronel launch a deep goal kick that Andrade was able take control of and leave for
Daniel Farias for the first strike of the half.
Ethan Rojas sent a deep shot past the keeper for the back-breaker at 5-0. In the 77th minute,
Alex Martinez capped off the scoring by stealing a bad pass and immediately scoring for number 6.
South Puget Sound was able to score late in the 81st minute on a miscue from the CBC defense but it was not enough as the Hawks settled in for the 6-1 victory. They will take on Evergreen State and CSI in a pair of scrimmages before heading to Tukwila to take on Bellevue and Tacoma in the NWAC Friendlies on August 20th.
