Columbia Basin defeated Wenatchee Valley at home winning 3 sets in a row for the 3-1 final.
Zuri Reeser and
Kaylie Christopher combine for 28 kills in the effort.
In their first big region test of the year, CBC rose to the occasion. Wenatchee came away with Set 1 with a big run in the middle of the frame to erase an early CBC lead 25-20. Set 2 saw the Hawks jump ahead 15-5 with a 6-1 run. The Knights were able to climb back in it but it was Reeser capping a 3-0 run with a big kill for the 25-20 win.
CBC hit the ball well all night finishing with 50 kills and a .160 hit percentage but Wenatchee's Poliana Lazarini was able to notch 18 kills in the match as Basin seemingly had no answer for her at times. The match wore on, both teams traded kills before a timeout with the score 7-7. From there, Basin put in a 6-1 run and then another 5-0 run to end the set 25-17. In front of a big crowd and big 4th set coming, CBC was given their biggest test of the season.
Neither team lead by more than 2 in the set as there was 5 lead changes. Wenatchee came out of a timeout with a 3-0 run to take a 1 point lead at 20-19. Christopher tied it back up at 20 before a couple of errors by WVC gave the Hawks a 23-22 lead. The Knights again tied it back up at 23 but
Camille Collins swung for point 24 and with match point on the line,
Kambree Baker and
Yajaira Meraz were able to complete a block of Lazarini for the final point of the night.
The Hawks move to 14-3 on the year and 3-0 in the East Region. They will hit the road to begin October traveling to Big Bend and then Treasure Valley with both matches starting at 6pm.
