Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Zimmerman's equalizer keeps Hawks atop East Region

Columbia Basin and Spokane battled to a 1-1 draw in Pasco. Satori Zimmerman's goal paced the Hawks for the day.

After a big win in Walla Walla, the Hawks were then tasked with taking on division rival Spokane. After beating Spokane for the 2023 NWAC title, both teams came out with new faces on the pitch. CBC was the aggressor early on as Angelina Keister and Ava Suarez continuously put pressure on the Spokane defense.

It was Spokane on the board first with what could be considered a deep pass that happened to bend into the far post for the opening score. Outside of halftime, Basin came out with some juice looking to tie it back up. In the 54th minute, Zimmerman stole an attack from Spokane and carried the ball up the middle of the field before unleashing a 25 yard strike that sailed over the keeper and into the back of the net for the equalizer. Just 2 minutes later, Zimmerman had another chance at a deep strike from the middle but this one glanced off the crossbar just enough to bounce on the wrong side of the touch line.

From there, both teams seemed exhausted as the match wore on with neither team mustering more than one strong attack, settling for the eventual 1-1 draw.

The tie allows CBC to hold a 2 point lead in the East over Spokane. They will get a rematch at home against Walla Walla on Saturday as they look to finish the second leg of conference play strong. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:15pm.
