Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late game rally not enough as Hawks drop to Warriors at home

Walla Walla defeated Columbia Basin in Pasco 63-53. Analyssa Maldonado scored 16 to lead the way for the Hawks. Ezrah Ray added 10 and 9 in support.

A well played game by CBC kept them neck and neck with the 4-0 Warriors, who lead the conference. Maldonado and company had plenty of open looks to start the game off but rim-unkind as they were unable to connect on good looks. Walla Walla struggled with the CBC press all game to the tune of 20 turnovers but scored enough to keep a thin lead. Basin was able to take the lead at 21-20 midway through the second quarter as Maldonado and Sadie Tanner got going.

Again in the Third, the Hawks were able to produce a 17-14 win in the period with Baylie Voile knocking down a couple of big 3's. In the fourth, it seems as if tired legs began to set in as a couple of uncharacteristic misses at the hoop allowed the Warriors to score in transition the other way pushing the lead up to 10 with 2 minutes to go. The Hawks were able to get some extra steals but again shots were not falling when they needed to the most. Walla Walla connected on their final free throws to send the game into the books at the 63-53 final.

The Hawks will get a chance to rebound in Wenatchee Valley against a Knight squad near the bottom of the standings. They will then return in February at home against Blue Mountain on Saturday the 1st at 2pm.
