Walla Walla defeated Columbia Basin on Holden Court 76-74.
Keiren Brown finished with 29 while
Coleton Hansen added 19 in support.
The Hawks came out with a game plan to slow down the Warriors and shrink the game down early and often. CBC's defense didn't allow any breathing room on the perimeter for Walla who only made five 3's in the half. On offense, Basin was methodical and timely as they pounded the ball in the paint with Brown and Hansen scoring at rim. Basin grew a lead to as many as 10 but a late basketball brought the Warriors to within 8 at 37-29.
In the second half, the game slowed down even more as there were 41 combined free throws awarded seemingly on every possession. Catapulted by a string of and-1's, Walla Walla was able to erase the deficit and take a lead but CBC was patient and aggressive as they were able to stay on top deep into the second half. With the whistle, Walla shot 8 free throws in the final two minutes. With 15 seconds left and two more free throws, Walla pulled ahead 75-74 leaving CBC with one more possession. Brown's layin attempt was blocked out of bounds with 3 seconds left. On the inbound play, Hansen was fouled with 1.2 seconds remaining. Hansen missed the first of two shots and before he could even attempt his second, a whistle came in for a CBC lane violation. Walla then inbounded for another free throw, escaping with the win.
CBC drops to 2-3 in region but will get a chance to rebound in Wenatchee Valley on Saturday before returning home on February 1st against Blue Mountain.
