Columbia Basin fought back from an early deficit to earn a 1–1 draw against visiting Walla Walla on Saturday afternoon. Despite conceding just nine minutes into the match, the Hawks settled in and dominated much of the remaining play, outshooting the Warriors 13–7 and controlling possession for long stretches.
Walla Walla's Payton Anderson struck first in the 9th minute, taking advantage of a quick counterattack to put the visitors ahead 1–0. From there, Columbia Basin's defense, anchored by Darby Adams and Sophia Medina, tightened up and kept Walla Walla from adding to their lead. Goalkeeper Sam Groesbeck came up with a key save just before halftime to keep the Hawks within one.
After regrouping at the break, Columbia Basin came out firing. The Hawks' pressure finally paid off in the 64th minute when Zoey Forst buried the equalizer off a setup from Meche Fernandez, who found Forst in space near the top of the box. The goal energized the home crowd and swung momentum firmly in Basin's favor.
Columbia continued to push for a winner, generating several late chances from Allie Draper and Hailey Despres, but Walla Walla's keeper held strong. Despite the missed opportunities, the Hawks showed resilience and composure in their comeback performance.
With the draw, Columbia Basin will look to build on the result when they return to action next week.
