Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late run propels Women's Soccer into Elite with 2-0 win over Portland

The Hawks were patient, professional, and precise — everything a championship contender should be. Columbia Basin left no doubt in a composed 2-0 victory over Portland at home, turning sustained pressure into two decisive second-half strikes. The first 45 minutes unfolded as a tactical chess match: Columbia controlled possession and created chances but could not find the breakthrough, while Portland's keeper kept her side in it with a string of strong saves.

When the second half began the Hawks increased the tempo and finally unlocked the door. In the 59th minute Katee Huskic swept home her first goal of the season after a well-worked sequence that began in midfield; Myah Giles's vision and delivery were the assist's defining elements. That goal rewarded Columbia's persistence and shifted momentum firmly in their favor.

From that point Columbia's confidence grew. The back line tightened, denying Portland clear opportunities and forcing rushed attempts. Sam Groesbeck was steady, pulling off a couple of important saves to maintain the clean sheet and allow the offense to operate without panic. Midfielders Myah Giles and Joelee Green-Cerrillo controlled transitions, recycling the ball and feeding the frontline with tempo and intelligence.

The finish came in the 74th minute when Hailey Despres converted a precise Myah Giles cross, punctuating the win and rewarding a dominating shift after halftime. Substitutions helped keep legs fresh and the team's intensity high down the stretch, with the bench providing quality minutes that closed the contest.

With the win, the Hawks will travel to Port Angeles where they will take on defending champ Peninsula with a Final Four birth on the line. Kickoff scheduled for 2:30pm.
