Columbia Basin defeated Chemeketa to finish off the weekend 7-3 and 5-4.
Lauryn Krick earned both wins in relief for the Hawks who improve to 4-0 on the year.
GAME 1
In a rain soaked day, CBC came through with some timely hitting to stave off Chemeketa on Day 2. The Storm were on the board early with a 3-run home run but the Hawks didn't let that stand long. Krick and
Kaylie Christopher went back to back in the 3rd to tie it up at 3 before
Peighton Fuhriman gave Basin the lead with an RBI single. In the bottom of the 4th, it was Christopher again with a 2-RBI triple before being brought home by a
Halli Lott single.
Coming in to start the 2nd inning, Krick pitched 4 innings of 1-hit ball with 6 strikeouts to shut down Chemeketa for the duration of the shortened 5-inning game.
GAME 2
Chemeketa again took an early 3-0 lead after 1 and a half innings. Basin was not to be deterred as they went to work in the 2nd to grind it out. Fuhriman doubled to bring home
Jaycee Jacobson. As CBC put some ducks on the pond,
Amarie Guzman's single up the middle plated 2 more to tie it up again at 3-3. Chemeketa score one in the 4th but Krick's triple brought home
Bree Waldron before Christopher's sac fly scored the crucial 5th run.
Krick took over in the 4th to try and bring the sweep home. The Storm, down 5-4 got a leadoff runner on but Krick avoided the runner with 2 punchouts to strand the runner on third and preserve the 5-4 victory.
The sweep moves CBC to 4-0 to start the year. They will host Pierce and Mt. Hood for a double-header starting on March 1st and 2nd as they look to stay undefeated.
