Columbia Basin split a double-header against defending champion Mt. Hood by scores of 10-20 and 4-1. Sophomore
Lauryn Krick earned the complete game win in Game 2 scattering 7 hits for just 1 run and 5 strikeouts.
GAME 1
The bats were active early in the day as both teams swung it early and often. Basin jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with home runs from Krick and
Leia Duropan in the first. The Saints rallied back with 6 of their own in the 4th to make it 7-3 but the Hawks had an answer. Two-out hits from
Raquel Palmeira and Duropan gave CBC the lead back at 8-7 but the Saint bats ended up turning in another crooked inning for a big lead back.
Duropan drove in another run with a line-drive triple to the left field corner as part of a 3-hit game for the centerfielder. A late rally was cut short in the 7th after a
Halli Lott RBI single but it was Mt. Hood taking the game with a 20-10 final.
GAME 2
Undeterred by the first game, Krick settled into the circle and began to attack the Mt. Hood hitters with quality stuff. The lone run surrendered came in the 2nd off a single to left but Palmeira cut the second runner down at home to end the inning and the threat. The big inning came in the 4th with a couple runners on for
Kaylie Christopher who lined one to the centerfield wall that plated 2 runs. She would later score on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.
Krick continued to tamp the Saint offense down with timely defense behind her.
Peighton Fuhriman found the right filed grass in the 6th to bring home
Naomi Peterson for an insurance run as Krick finished off the game with a clean 6th and 7th inning handing CBC the 4-1 win and split.
CBC moves to 7-1 on the year in another great start to the season. They will take on Clark for a double-header ahead of the NWAC Invitational on Friday March 7th through the 9th.
