Columbia Basin split a non-conference double-header against Spokane at home by scores of 2-8 and 13-3.
Ambrose Driver got the win in Game 2 with 5 strong innings.
GAME 1
With rain pouring all day and winds whipping around, Spokane and CBC met for a wet Friday double header. Not much hitting was done in Game 1 as Spokane capitalized on a few CBC mistakes to take a 3-0 lead after 5 innings. The Hawk hitters struggled to muster any momentum as the Sasquatch piled up an 8-0 lead by the end of the 8th.Â
The lone runs came in the 9th as
Ethan Stewart doubled in
Diego Escandon to get on the board.
Lance Anderson brought home Stewart with a single of his own but the rally would be cut short as Spokane closed it out for the 8-2 final.
GAME 2
A rocky start for Driver got Spokane on the board with a wild pitch but from there, Driver was solid. The freshman scattered 6 hits for just 2 earned runs in his outing while striking out 5. CBC ignited the bats in the second game with
Jacob Reece giving Basin a 2-1 lead on an RBI single. Anderson struck again in the 4th inning with a big 2-RBI double to put the Hawks back ahead 4-3 where they would not look back.
Caden Yesford connected on a fast ball in the 5th for CBC's first home run at home on the year as part of a 3-run inning. Escandon launched a towering 3-run home run of his own in the 6th pushing the lead to 12-3.
Alex Chamberlain doubled in the bottom of the 7th before scoring on a Spokane error to end the game early in 7.
Riley Whitlow pitched 2 innings of relief allowing no runs and striking out 2 in his brief work.
The Game 2 win moves CBC to 9-9 on the year following a tough 2 weeks against top-ranked Lower Columbia and Everett. They will travel to Spokane on Saturday for the second leg of the series to finish out preseason play. First pitch scheduled for 1pm.
