Taking on Portland for the first time since last year's tournament, both teams featured a group of new faces. An 8-0 run lead by
Bobby Siebers pulled Basin ahead by 1 with 5:50 to go in the first half. Portland free throws would give the Panthers a 29-15 lead at half.

Basin came out firing in the second frame on a 15-9 run with Siebers and
Coleton Hansen leading the way. A flagrant foul from the Panthers gave CBC a big 4-point possession to extend their newly found lead but rebounding woes kept Portland close with second chance opportunities. A rugged game continued to evolve as officials were content with letting both teams be extra physical.

Turnovers caught Portland up at 50 with 5 minutes to before
Keiren Brown was forced to take a seat with 4 fouls. With 3 minutes to go and the shotclock winding down to zero, Portland attempted an off balance fadeaway 25 footer that was bailed out with a late whistle sending Brown off with his 5th. With the air sucked out of the gym, Portland extended their lead to 5 with 2 minutes to go. The Hawks could not recover as the Panthers were awarded free throws on 4 straight possessions despite the allowed physical play previously allowed during the second half.
