Columbia Basin split a double-header with Spokane by scores of 6-2 and 8-4.
Dylan Schlenger earned the win with 7 innings of scoreless ball.
GAME 1
Hoping to remain hot in region play, Basin got a strong start from Schlenger at home in Game 1. The Hawks jumped on the board first in the 3rd inning with a bang as
Alex Chamberlain crushed a 3-run shot to left field which would be all the run support needed for Schlenger.
Isaac Antunes executed a safety squeeze in the 4th for an insurance run.
Ethan Stewart singled to bring home
Lance Anderson in the 7th and
Xavier Streadbeck scored on a wild pitch for run number 6 in the 8th inning. Freshman
Riley Whitlow got the Hawks out of a mini jam in the 9th to close the game out after Spokane plated 2 runs in the frame but a line out to second ended the threat giving CBC the win.
GAME 2
A small strikezone in Game 2 forced starter
Jason Schuler to battle through some deep counts. Spokane scored 2 in the first after a defensive miscue that would have got Basin out of the inning. Chamberlain grounded out to second to get the Hawks on the board trailing 2-1.
Still down 2-1 in the 3rd, Stewart lined a ball to deep right into the wind for a big 2-run home run, pushing CBC back ahead 3-2. From there, walks became an issue as the staff struggled to keep runners off base. The Bigfoot connected on their biggest hit of the day- a 2-out 3 RBI double in the 4th.Â
James Lawrence lined out to deep right bringing home another but it wasn't enough as Spokane carried the rest of the way toward the 8-4 final.Â
CBC remains at the top of the Region at 9-3 (one game ahead of Spokane and Yakima Valley). They will get a chance to continue against Yakima Valley in a big 4-game series that could prove crucial to the playoff picture. The Hawks will host the first double-header on Wednesday on CBC Field with first pitch scheduled for 1pm.Â
