Columbia Basin defeated Treasure Valley in a Wednesday double-header by scores of 14-0 and 4-3.
Brayden Walls continued his scoreless streak with 6 innings in Game 1 while
Branson Rozier earned the win in Game 2 with 4 scoreless innings of relief.
GAME 1
The bats were hot early for CBC.
Alex Chamberlain started off the day with a bases clearing double in the 1st as part of a 4-run inning. Coming back around in the 2nd inning, Chamberlain parked a massive home run off the batter's eye in center field giving Walls a 10-0 lead after two innings.
Cole Rohlmeier followed Chamberlain up with a 2-run home run to left in the 6-run inning. Chamberlain finished the game 3-4 with the homer, 2 doubles and 5 RBIs.
Walls turned in another gem with 6 innings and just 1 hit allowed. He struck out 7 on his way to quick outing.
James Lawrence tripled to right bringing in 1 in the bottom of the 6th. Rohlmeier followed with a double scoring Lawrence before
Caleb Eisenhower plated him for the 14th and final run of the game.
Ben Lake came on to finish it out in quick order for CBC on the way to the 14-0 final in 7 innings.
GAME 2
After a quick intermission, the bats went silent for Basin. The Chukars got on the board in the 2nd off a miscue from the CBC defense. They struck again in the 3rd off starter
Ambrose Driver for a 2-out double giving the Chukars a 3-0 lead. Driver was able to mitigate damage from there finishing 5 innings allowing just 2 earned runs. Freshman
Branson Rozier came out of the pen with 4 innings of quality relief allowing just 1 hit and striking out 6.
With time dwindling away, CBC was able to scratch one in the 7th from Chamberlain. In the 8th,
Caden Yesford brought home Lawrence with a sac fly to make it 3-2 heading into the 9th. With 3 outs remaining,
Lance Anderson lead off the inning drawing a 3-2 count before tattooing a deep home run to left to tie it up. With the momentum now completely in the Basin dugout,
Ethan Stewart worked a walk after starting down 0-2 in the count.
Diego Escandon laid down a sac bunt moving Stewart to 2nd with 1 out. Following an intentional walk to Chamberlain, both runners moved up to second and third on a wild pitch. Lawrence stood in on an inside fastball to draw a hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Catcher
Jacob Reece walked it off as he too was hit by a pitch on a 1-1 count giving CBC the 4-3 win in exciting fashion.
The Hawks move to 15-11 on the year and 5-1 in East Region play now in the lead atop the region. They will return the double-header against Treasure Valley in Ontario starting this Saturday at 1pm MST.
