Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball settles for split after rough finish

Columbia Basin split a double header at home versus Walla Walla. The Hawks took Game 1 3-0 behind a stellar performance from Dylan Schlenger but dropped Game 2 8-10.

GAME 1

Dylan Schlenger and Branson Rozier combined for 9 inning shut out in Game 1. Schlenger went 7 innings scattering 6 hits and striking out 6. Basin scored two in the bottom of the 2nd with 2-out RBIs from Caleb Eisenhower and Isaac Antunes to make it 2-0.

Alex Chamberlain doubled in Diego Escandon in the 8th for one insurance run before Schlenger gave way to Rozier in the 8th. Rozier finished his 2 innings with 2 strike outs, no walks and two hits for the save and the 3-0 final.

GAME 2

A hitter friendly game in the second contest of the day saw the Warriors come away with a late win on a 4-run 9th inning. CBC lead 4-3 heading into the 5th with starter Jason Schuler navigating a shaky start. In the 5th, Cole Rohlmeier and Braiden Bond went back-to-back with two home runs giving Basin a 6-3 lead.

As both bullpens began to show wear after a long week, Walla Walla plated 3 runs in the 6th to tie it up off a few walks and a CBC miscue on defense. Bond lead off the bottom of the 8th with a triple to left center before Jacob Reece hit a deep sac fly to give the Hawks a 7-6 lead heading into the 9th.

After a walk and two slow chopper infield hits, The Warriors reached on an error and then singled in two more for the 10-7 lead. Escandon hit a double to left the plated Lance Anderson but it wasn't enough as CBC fell 10-8.
