Columbia Basin defeated Blue Mountain in a home double by scores of 15-1 and 14-4.
Brayden Walls and
Ambrose Driver got wins in the effort with Walls throwing a complete game.
GAME1
In need of a big day at the plate, the Hawk hitters came through with flying colors. Lead by
Elliott Taylor's 3-3 day, 8 different batters registered at least one hit in the effort. Walls was sharp on the hill allowing just 4 hits over his 7 innings while striking out 9.
Taylor's 3-run homer got the Hawks on the board early in the 2nd at 3-0. Taylor doubled home another run in the 3rd as part of a 3-run inning. The crooked number came in the 4th as CBC scored 7 including 2-RBI hits from Taylor and
Lance Anderson.Â
The 15 runs would be more than enough as Walls cruised through the final 3 innings for another complete game for the lefty.
GAME 2
Driver was also the beneficiary of the massive run support but his day was cut short with some control problems in the 4th leading to a 2-run inning for Blue.
Cole Rohlmeier singled in a run to give CBC the lead before
Alex Chamberlain sent a ball to the right-center wall for 2 more runs and a 6-3 lead after 4.
Branson Rozier came on in relief but was a little shakey with command. The right-hander navigated around trouble while holding on to a 6-4 lead after 5 1/2. Basin came through in the clutch with a 6-run inning capped by multiple 2-out RBIs from
Xavier Streadbeck and
James Lawrence. From there, Rozier was able to put up zeros in the 6th and 7th.
In the bottom of the 7th with the bases loaded,
Braiden Bond walked it off with a 2-RBI single to left for the 14-4 early finish in 7 innings.
The wins and a Walla Walla loss give CBC a 1 game lead in 2nd place with 2 games to go on Saturday. With 2 wins or a win and another Walla loss, CBC will clinch the 2-seed and would host a Regional playoff.
