Columbia Basin opened the 2025 season in strong fashion on Saturday afternoon, defeating Lower Columbia 2–0 on their home field. The Hawks controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, generating consistent pressure with six first-half shots and five corner opportunities. Their persistence paid off in the 39th minute when sophomore forward Zoey Forst broke through with the first goal of the season, finishing off a well-placed assist from Yadricia Aguilar-Gomez to give CBC a 1–0 lead heading into the break.
The Hawks wasted no time extending their advantage in the second half. Less than a minute after the restart, defender Haylee John stepped into the attack and buried a shot to push the margin to 2–0. That quick strike gave Columbia Basin the cushion it needed while the back line and goalkeeper Brooklyn Best ensured the shutout. Best finished with four saves, including a pair of key stops in the final minutes as Lower Columbia tried to rally.
Overall, the Hawks outshot the Red Devils 11–8 and kept composure on both ends of the pitch. With the win, Columbia Basin improves to 1–0 and will look to carry momentum into the NWAC Friendlies where they will take on Edmonds and Tacoma starting on August 19th/20th.
