Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hawks emerge with big win at home lead by Wells' 20 off the bench

Columbia Basin put together its most complete performance of the conference season on Saturday night, earning a 68–55 home win over Big Bend.

The Hawks controlled the game from the opening tip, building a 31–18 lead by halftime through consistent defensive pressure and efficient shot selection. Columbia Basin limited Big Bend to 18 first-half points, forcing difficult possessions and preventing the Vikings from establishing any rhythm early.

Offensively, Columbia Basin moved the ball well and capitalized on transition opportunities. The Hawks scored 31 points in the first half and followed with 37 in the second, maintaining steady production on both ends of the floor. Big Bend responded with a stronger second half, matching Columbia Basin with 37 points after the break, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

Columbia Basin finished the night with 68 total points and never trailed, answering every Big Bend run with timely baskets. The Hawks' ability to maintain their lead was driven by balanced scoring and disciplined execution, particularly in the half court. Defensively, Columbia Basin stayed active in passing lanes and contested shots throughout the game, holding Big Bend to 55 points overall.

Big Bend showed improvement after halftime, scoring more than double its first-half total, but Columbia Basin's consistency and control of tempo kept the Vikings from cutting the margin to single digits late. The Hawks continued to make the necessary plays down the stretch, using solid ball movement and defensive stops to close out the win.

With the victory, Columbia Basin moves to 7–10 overall and picks up its first conference win of the season. The Hawks will look to build on this performance as conference play continues, focusing on the same defensive intensity and balanced offensive approach that led to Saturday's result.
