Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hawks elevate over Vikings late at home 58-54

Columbia Basin defeated Big Bend at home 58-54 to move into 1st place in the East Region. Nekha Roehl, Sadie Tanner and Amber Swan combined for 46 points to lead the way.

The Hawks came out swining early in their full court press for an early lead. The Vikings struggled with the pressure but vaulted back with a quick 6-0 run to end the first quarter. Both teams played physical in the half court with nothing coming easy on either side but Ezrah Ray's free throw tied it up at 26 heading into half.

Outside of halftime, neither team flinched as CBC took care of the ball while shredding Big Bend's zone defense for 17. CBC lead by as many as 11 points in the 4th Quarter but the Vikings would not go away without a rally late to take the lead 54-51 with 3 minutes to go. Roehl was able to spin in the lane and cut it to 1 before a turnover by the Vikings let Roehl get loose in transition for big bucket to put the Hawks back up 1. After another stop, Tanner drove down the lane and floated a left-hand shot up that banked off the glass to give Basin a 3 point lead.

Big Bend was unable to connect on multiple 3 point attempts as Roehl's free throw iced it for Basin at 58-54. The win moves CBC to 3-1 in conference play atop the East with help from Yakima Valley who defeated Treasure Valley. The Hawks will travel to Walla Walla for a huge rivalry matchup on Wednesday before returning home to host Wenatchee Valley on Saturday at 4pm.
