Columbia Basin controlled the tempo from the opening minutes and built consistent momentum on the way to a 59–50 victory over Pierce, using steady execution on both ends to secure the win.
The Hawks set the tone early, jumping out to a 13–9 lead in the first quarter. Their offense was balanced, moving the ball effectively and capitalizing on quality looks, while defensively they limited Pierce's transition opportunities. That early edge allowed Columbia Basin to play from in front and dictate pace.
In the second quarter, the Hawks began to separate. A 15–8 advantage in the period pushed the halftime margin to 28–17. Basin's defensive pressure forced tough possessions, and their ability to convert stops into points proved pivotal. Pierce struggled to find a rhythm, while the Hawks continued to execute with patience and purpose.
Pierce responded after the break, but Basin met the challenge. The third quarter was competitive, with both teams scoring 15 points, yet CBC's ability to match Pierce basket for basket prevented any real momentum shift. Each time Pierce looked to close the gap, they answered, maintaining control through disciplined play.
In the final quarter, Columbia Basin closed the door. Despite Pierce's 17-point effort, the Hawks matched it with 16 of their own, calmly managing the clock and making timely plays. Their composure in key moments ensured the lead never slipped into danger.
Despite the grueling nature of the game coupled with only a day off following the Crossover, the Hawks were able to get the job done 59-50. They will open up league play on the road at Treasure Valley January 7th with tipoff scheduled for 5pm MST (4pm Pacific Time).
