Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball comes away empty after tough weekend at home

CBC fell to Linn-Benton in a Sunday double-header by scores of 6-2 and 7-2.

GAME 1

Walks and bunt defense did the Hawks in midway through Game 1. Starter Sonny Salazar struggled early with command but was still effective. A couple of walks in the Second lead to an RBI single for the Roadrunners and 2-0 lead. Diego Escandon tripled in the bottom of the frame and scored on a failed pick off attempt before Andrew Lehman singled in Cohen Sunich to tie it up at 2.

Salazar got into more trouble in the 4th before leaving the bases loaded and two outs for Joey Facilla. Facilla hit the first batter but was then able to get out of the jam. From there, the freshman righty went two more innings allowing no hits and striking out 2.

Linn-Benton scored 4 in the 7th as a couple of throwing errors lead to a big inning and the eventual 6-2 final. The Hawks were unable to come up with a rally and were forced to settle for the loss.

GAME 2

Freshman Levi Stevenson took the hill for Basin in the final game of the series. The Utah righty was stellar early with a commanding fastball and well-located breaking balls. After 3 scoreless to begin the game, Linn-Benton connected with their first extra base hit of the day plating 1 run. The Hawks rallied back immediately with 2 of their own in the 4th scoring on sacs from Escandon and Dierks Chavez to vault ahead 2-1.

Another throwing error lead to a big 5th inning for LB capitalized by a 2-out 3 RBI double to put the game out of reach for the Hawks. A couple of base runners in the 7th wasn't enough to spark a rally as CBC fell 7-2 in the last game of the weekend.

The Hawks will get a chance to rebound next weekend as they open up a 4-game series against the Chemeketa Storm beginning Saturday at 11am.
