Hawks fall to Warriors at home, settle for 3-seed

Columbia Basin dropped a 77-57 decision to Walla Walla on Wednesday night at home, finishing at 20-7 overall (10-4 in league play).

The Hawks matched Walla Walla for much of the first quarter and held a 16-15 edge after the opening ten minutes. Amber Swan scored seven of Columbia Basin's first 11 points, connecting on a three-pointer and two layups. Sadie Tanner added five first-quarter points, including a pull-up three. The game stayed close through the first half, with the score tied five separate times, and Columbia Basin trailed 34-30 at halftime.

The third quarter was where the game separated. Walla Walla outscored the Hawks 21-12 with some late 3's to extend their lead. Columbia Basin managed just 12 points in the quarter on 5-of-14 shooting, and turnovers led directly to several Walla Walla fastbreak buckets.

Tanner led Columbia Basin with 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting to go with 2 blocks and 4 assists, though she also committed 4 turnovers. Swan finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds but shot just 6-of-16 from the field. Nekha Roehl posted 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and a team-high 3 steals in 33 minutes.

The Hawks will enter the NWAC Championship as the 3-seed from the East where they will take on Skagit Valley out of the North on the first day of women's play.
