Brekke leads Hawk hitters in split with Timberwolves at home

Columbia Basin split a non-league double-header with Blue Mountain at home by scores of 18-7 and 13-3.

The pitching staff struggled with plate command in Game 1 as Blue Mountain was able to pull away in the mid innings. CBC led 7-4 through five innings, but the bottom fell out in the sixth. Three errors in the inning extended the rally and all five runs scored that frame were unearned. Blue Mountain added three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

K. Brekke was the offensive standout for Columbia Basin, going 3-for-4 with a three-run home run in the third inning and five RBI total. J. Facilla reached base all four plate appearances, drawing three walks and scoring twice. A. Lehman contributed two RBI.

Columbia Basin's pitching staff could not find stability, cycling through five pitchers who combined to issue 11 walks over seven innings. Starter L. Johnson lasted just two innings, allowing four runs on five hits. The bullpen provided no relief, with relief recording zero outs while issuing three walks and allowing five runs to score against him in the sixth.

GAME 2

Columbia Basin posted a 13-3 victory over Blue Mountain in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader, collecting 17 hits and stealing eight bases as a team.

The Hawks scored in four of seven innings, with multi-run frames in the second (3), fourth (3), sixth (5), and seventh (2). The offense was distributed throughout the lineup — seven of nine starters recorded at least one hit.

A. Lehman went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. D. Martinez- matched that line, going 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs. K. Brekke was 3-for-4 with an HBP, two stolen bases and an RBI. J. Garza added two doubles and two RBI, while C. Yesford contributed a solo home run and two RBI.

Starter A. Muneton earned the win, pitching four innings and striking out seven. Columbia Basin improves to 5-5 on the season.
