Columbia Basin dropped a double-header at home against the Mt. Hood Saints by scores of 18-6 and 17-6.
GAME 1
Columbia Basin suffered a difficult home loss Sunday, dropping an 18-6 five-inning decision to Mt. Hood.
The Hawks managed just six runs on six hits, with all of their scoring coming in a second-inning rally. After Mt. Hood put up seven in the first, Columbia Basin responded with six of its own in the bottom of the second. The inning featured back-to-back singles from Maddy Blood, Rylee Miller, and Macey McCuistio to load the bases, followed by a two-RBI single from Hannah Rasmussen that scored two. Laci Ross added an RBI single, and Robertson capped the rally with a three-run home run to make it 14-6.
That would be as close as Columbia Basin would get. Mt. Hood answered with four more runs in the fourth, and the Hawks were held scoreless in innings three, four, and five.
Columbia Basin's pitching struggled throughout the contest as the Saints were able to mount a couple of rallies and some 2-out basehits.
Offensively, the Hawks were lead by Robertson's home run and three RBI, while Hailey Rasmussen contributed two RBIs. The team left only two runners on base, but the deficit proved far too large to overcome.
GAME 2
Columbia Basin dropped the second game of Sunday's doubleheader to Mt. Hood, 17-6, in a six-inning contest.
The Hawks managed just five hits and struggled to generate consistent offense throughout the afternoon. Columbia Basin's best inning came in the fifth, when the team put together four runs. Dallaney Unseth started the rally with a pinch-hit double, and two batters later Jaycee Jacobson delivered a two-RBI double to put two runs on the board. McCuistion followed with a run-scoring groundout, and Ross capped the inning with a solo home run, his only hit of the game.
Halli Lott provided the team's other home run, a solo shot in the second inning. Robertson reached base twice and scored two of Columbia Basin's six runs, including on a fifth-inning double.
The Saints however, seemed to answer every CBC rally on the day with one of their own leading to the loss in Game 2.
CBC moves to 2-4 early in the season but will get a chance to rebound at home against Clark before entering the NWAC Inter-regional tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
