Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball walks off both wins at home against Vikings

Columbia Basin defeated Big Bend at home by scores of 4-3 and 12-2 (F- 8 innings). Tristan Dodds and Joey Facilla earned the wins on the mound.

GAME 1

Facing the Vikings ace, CBC was in for a pitcher's duel but spot starter Tristan Dodds was up for the challenge. In place of Branson Rozier, Dodds delivered 6 innings of 3-hit ball giving up just one run.

A solo homerun in the 3rd by Big Bend was all they would get off Dodds which would carry into the bottom of the 7th. In the bottom of the frame, Basin got a single from Tate Kubena to tie it up at 1 before Caden Yesford connected on a big 2-out 2 RBI single to left giving CBC a 3-1 lead.

The Vikings scored one on a wild pitch in the 8th. In the top of the 9th with 1 out, Andre Muneton got a chopping ground ball up the middle that looked like a sure double play but a bad bounce saw it roll into center field setting up a 1st and 3rd. Big Bend got a single to tie it up before grounding into another double play.

In the bottom of the 9th with Cohen Sunich at 3rd base with 2 outs, Andrew lehman singled up the middle for the walk-off win in Game 1 clinching a playoff birth for the Hawks.

GAME 2

Starter Joey Facilla strung together another strong performance cementing his status as the new #2 starter. The freshman went 7 innings allowing just 2 earned runs and scattering 6 hits.

The Hawk hitters were not going to let this one get close as they broke it open early. A single to center from Kubena drove home two as part of a 4 run second inning giving the Hawks a 4-1 lead. In the 3rd, Sunich tripled to center for 2 more RBIs and a 6-1 lead.

Facilla's lone trouble of the day came in the 5th as a double brought home a run before he was able to get out of a jam with two immediate outs. JC Garza sent a no-doubter to left field for his second home run of the year, good for two more runs.

In the 6th, back to back singles from Diego Martinez Griffin and Kevin Brekke extended the lead to 10-2. Sunich homered in the 7th for run number 11. After pitching in the top of the 8th inning, Brekke hit a line-drive single to right center bringing home DMG for the 10-run walkoff in the 8th inning giving Basin the sweep.

Wither either a win or a Treasure Valley loss, CBC will settle into the 3-seed going into Regional playoffs. They will first finish the regular season at Big Bend on Saturday at 1pm.
