Columbia Basin split a double-header against Yakima Valley on Sophomore Day 3-6 and 12-2.
GAME 1
Facing Yakima's all-conference pitcher, the Hawks battled in a low scoring game.
Hannah Robertson's first inning single plated a run giving the Hawks an early 1-0 lead. Yakima got to
Taylor Martinez in the 4th for a couple of runs off of walks to take a 4-1 lead.
Yakima scored 2 more in the 5th for a 6-1 lead as the offense fell quite.
Hailey Rasmussen came around on a safety squeeze after a leadoff triple to add one more in the 5th. In the bottom of the 7th, CBC began to mount a rally with 2 outs but an RBI single from
Halli Lott resulted in an out at 3rd base to cut the rally short for the 6-3 final in Game 1.
GAME 2
Game 2 faired much better for Basin who jumped on the throttle immediately in the first inning. Basin was able put the ball on the ground, leading to a few fielder's choice throws that were late. With a 4-0 lead,
Dallaney Unseth pinned the Yaks down at the plate with 4 scoreless innings to start the game.
Robertson doubled in 2 before coming around on a
Macey McCuistion single in the 2nd inning, extending th lead to 7-0. McCuistion had the swing of the day in the 3rd with the bases loaded. The freshman slapped a fastball into the gap with the bases loaded bringing home all 3 runs as part of a 5 run inning.
Unseth was able to steer around some minor trouble in the 5th, closing the door for the early finish and the 12-2 final score.
CBC finishes the regular season at 24-20 good for 3rd place in the East. They will head to the NWAC Championships as the 10-seed where they will likely face Clackamas in a loser-out game with the winner advancing into the Final 8 double-elimination tournament.
