Anthony Owens

Coach Owens is entering his sixth year as the Head Men's Basketball coach at Columbia Basin.

CBC finished with a 15-12 record and another NWAC championship appearance. Owens' team worked through a heavy-injury year to reach the Sweet 16 with a team that will return 8 sophomores in 2025-26.

In his first year, Coach Owens turned around the CBC program for a 9-4 finish including 2 wins over 1st place Wenatchee Valley (11-3). His team scored 91 points/game and was top 3 in the NWAC in FG%, 3PT% and FT% (51/39/75).

Prior to CBC, Owens spent one season at University of Texas at Tyler where he helped lead their transition to the NCAA Division 2 level. Before Tyler, he spent 4 seasons as the head coach at the University of Providence (Montana).

As an assistant, Owens coached at Portland State University under Tyler Geving for 5 years where he helped the Vikings reach the NCAA tournament in 2009. 

Owens is well-known for his recruiting prowess and ability to increase graduation rates amongst his teams. At Portland State, he helped recruit former NWAC MVP Chehales Tapscott while also helping Portland State transition off of Academic Compliance probation back toward compliance.

Before Portland State, Owens was an assistant coach at the College of Eastern Utah. The Eagles went 25-7 during his year there (2008-09). Owens was also an assistant at Eastern Arizona College where they went 53-13 in two years and advancing to the NJCAA national tournament in 2008. During those two seasons, he helped recruit one of the best rosters in almost 20 years with the starting 5 all going to 4-year schools including Nikola Kecman( Ohio State U)  Markhuri Sanders-Frison( University of Cal.)

As a player, Owens played at Arkansas-Fort Smith JC where he lead the team to a 55-11 record in two seasons. He then transitioned to the University of Great Falls (now Providence) where he lead the Frontier Conference in rebounding and made the All-Conference list in 2003.
