FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 3 Blue Mountain 2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 15-6)
Columbia Basin held on in 5 sets against Blue Mountain on Friday for the 3-2 win.
Lucendy Perez lead the way for Basin with 15 kills.
Madeline Jorgenson added 7 kills, 9 assists and 15 digs in support.
A rough night for the Hawks on defense had them scrambling all night to battle against the Timberwolves who snuck out of set 1 with the 25-23 win. With multiple players struggling, Basin continued to hold it together long enough to make plays at the end of each set. CBC rebounded well in sets 2 and 3 behind Perez and Jorgenson with a couple of late pushes to pull away from Blue Mountain when it mattered.
All season long the Hawks have played a "bend don't break" style of volleyball where no lead is too much to overcome. Coach
DiShondra Goree's bunch continue to thrive in chaotic matches that don't have much rhythm. After a few mistakes in set 4, Basin needed a strong start to the 5th set and they got it.
Behind kills from Jorgenson and
Tamia Allen-Greggs, CBC jumped ahead 3-8 as the Basin blockers forced Blue into several attack errors. Perez and Jorgenson again put kills on the board to push the lead to 10-5 where Blue Mountain folded. The Timberwolves committed 5 straight errors in a row to help CBC close out the set 15-6.
The rollercoaster win helps bump CBC to 8-2 in the East as they slowly creep up on a rematch with Spokane that may decide the East Region title. Before that, CBC will continue the homestand against Wenatchee Valley on Wednesday for DIg Pink night.
