FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 3 Wenatchee Valley 0 (25-21, 25-16, 28-26)
CBC only needed 3 sets for the win at home against Wenatchee Valley. Lead by
Grace Morby's 9 kills, Basin put away the Knights in straight sets with a spectacular ending to the 3rd set.
After their usual sluggish start, the Hawks began to hit their stride at 18-17 outscoring Wenatchee 7-4 to finish off the set behind Morby who had 4 of her 9 kills in the set.
Set 2 finally saw coach
DiShondra Goree's preaching of starting fast finally come to fruition. CBC raced ahead 10-6 with a couple of aces from
Rose Vazquez. They continued to pound the floor to the tune of a 11-4 run before
Haley Bjorkman put the set away with a big kill.
The Knights were determined to keep putting up a fight in set 3. Again, Basin trailed early and for most of the set as mental mistakes made their way on to the scoreboard. But, CBC's "bend don't break" style of play came in just the knick of time as they were able to tie it up at 25-25 before scoring 3 in a row to finish off Wenatchee 28-26.
The victory moves CBC into a 3-way tie for first place with Walla Walla beating Spokane. The Hawks will face their toughest two remaining games starting on Friday when Spokane comes to Pasco. Basin will then travel to Walla Walla the following Wednesday in what is sure to decide the top 3 spots in the East.
