FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 3 Walla Walla 0
Columbia Basin shut out Walla Walla on Saturday for the 3-0 victory, securing a home playoff game in the post season. Three different Hawks scored in the contest as Basin pitched another shutout at home.
Johnny Ramirez opened up the scoring for CBC as he converted a quick shot in the box off a beautiful pass from
Mario Negrete in the 7th minute. The CBC defense again was stout all day only giving up two real chances by the Warriors, both gathered by Sophomore keeper
Daniel Puga.
Walla Walla was able to pack it in on defense aiming to make it as hard as possible for CBC to find any room in the box. A few near misses by
Jose Botello and
Raymundo Mendez missed just wide of the net leaving the Hawks with just a 1-0 halftime lead.
Fortunately,
Mario Jacobo was able to put away a cross deep in the box from Negrete for the second goal of the day, just on the front side of the 58th minute. The second goal would be more than enough as Basin continued to play staunch defense and continued the assault on offense.
Botello put away the dagger in the 80th minute off the foot of Diego Cervantes for the 3rd goal of the day as CBC cruised to the 3-0 victory. The win guarantees CBC the 2nd seed in the East and a hosted playoff game but
Martin Ramirez's bunch have bigger goals in mind. A win or two ties in their final two games would clinch a region title for the Hawks, their second in 3 years. They will look to achieve that goal on Saturday at North Idaho before returning home on the 27th against Wenatchee Valley in the regular season finale.
