FINAL SCORE: Columbia Basin 0 Yakima Valley 3 (25-19, 27-25, 25-20)
Columbia Basin dropped a tough one Yakima Valley on Wednesday 3-0.
Lucendy Perez was the leading hitter for the Hawks with 10 kills and added 8 digs in the losing effort.
In their first home loss of the season, CBC saw no breaks come their way on 50-50 balls. Yakima's plan of attack looked effective and had the Hawks searching for answers all night. After dropping set 1 early, Basin held serve for most of the second until the Yaks tied it up at 23. Coming out of a timeout, CBC gave up a serve on miscommunication allowing the Yaks to pull ahead 24-23. Basin was able to climb back ahead 25-24 but two kills from Yakima gave them the set 27-25.
As the night wore on, every ball Yakima sent over the net either found the one hole in the defense or ricocheted off blockers straight to the floor. Basin did it's best to continue clawing back but it was not enough as the Yaks again pulled away in set 3 for the sweep, 3-0.
The loss still keeps CBC one game ahead of Yakima in the standings with 2 games to remain for each team, both against North Idaho and Treasure Valley. A Yakima loss or two Basin wins would net the Hawks an East Region title. For now, CBC will travel to North Idaho on Friday to try and seal up a region title on the road before returning home to face Treasure Valley
