Columbia Basin women's soccer scored twice in the shut out against Yakima Valley on Saturday.
Bailey Whitney and
Megan Little both scored a goal in the effort for the Hawks. Starter
Melissa Aris and
RiaJo Schwartz combined for the shut out in goal on the afternoon.
After succumbing to a disappointing tie last weekend against Walla Walla, CBC came out hoping to rebound against Yakima. Basin controlled time of possession for most of the half resulting in 5 shots on goal for the period to Yakima's 1.Â
On the other side of halftime, Basin came down the right side on an attempt when the Yakima defender intercepted the pass. The defender then proceeded to twist her ankle and go down which opened the door for
Bailey Whitney to take the turnover and put it in the back of the net to take the lead in the 56th minute. The Hawks were able to tack on insurance with a late goal by
Megan Little who banked a shot off the side of the keeper into the back of the net. That would be all the defense needed as they didn't allow many chances from the Yak offense.
CBC moves their record to 4-2-1 on the year. They will be back at home on Saturday against undefeated Spokane.
