Columbia Basin defeated Big Bend in both games Thursday night. The Hawks finished the night winning all 4 sets in convincing fashion to push their record back to .500.
Jorja Hadden lead all attackers with 12 kills on the night while sister
Ciera Hadden finished with 11 kills. In game 1, CBC came out with just one practice under their belt since the COVID-19 related quarantine. They wasted no time jumping on Big Bend by racing out to a 20-13 lead before using a 3-0 run to finish the set. In set 2, the Hawks took control of the game by serving up 9 aces while the Vikings had 4 service errors. The Hadden sisters were able to put away the set and the first match by a score of 25-12.
Game 2 saw Big Bend come out with some fight in them as they pushed Basin early but still fell short in both sets as CBC stayed focused and used their defense and passing to pull away at the end. The Vikings had the first set at 14-15 before CBC reeled off a 6-2 run to again put away set 1 in convincing fashion. Defense and setting helped seal the deal for set two 25-20. Setters
Nya Calzadillas and
Jaiden Blakely both contributed 5 assists and 5 digs a piece in the effort.
Basin will return to the court on Wednesday May 19th in a makeup game against Walla Walla at home starting at 5pm with game two following 15 minutes after the end of Game 1.
