Columbia Basin defeated Walla Walla in a 5-set single match between the two teams. Breaking from the traditional double header, Walla Walla elected to play a single 5-set match.
CBC came out in the first set with an 6-1 run to come back from a 24-20 deficit.
Nya Calzadillas recorded 3 points in the final run including a back corner attack to seal the deal in set 1.
The Warriors were able to claim set 2 off a run of their own coming back from 17-9 to win it 25-23. CBC had trouble passing late in the sets as mental mistakes proved costly. Walla Walla also won set 3 in a close battle 26-24.
Both teams went back and forth all night with timely defense and strong attacks. Determined not to give in, CBC rolled off another quick run to take set 4 25-22. The Hawks had 17 kills in the set lead by CIera Hadden's 7 kills in the set.Â
In the final set, Walla Walla had game point locked and loaded at 14-10 and serving but again, Basin dug in their feet and chased it all the way back with a 7-1 run to finish the set and match.
Ciera Hadden's 18 kills lead the way for CBC with 4 other Hawks totalling 8 or more kills. Freshman Libero
Reina Deasy logged 35 digs and 2 assists in the defensive effort on the night.
The win moves Columbia Basin back above .500 for the first time this year at 7-6. They will host East Region leader Spokane on Friday for Sophomore night starting at 5 pm.
