Columbia Basin crossed the century mark outscoring Multnomah JV by 45 in their season opener. Six Hawks finished in double-figures lead by Kenzi Pedersen's 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The new look Hawks came ready to play this year. With a stellar class of Freshman and experienced returners, they will be scoring some major points. In the first quarter alone, Basin screamed out to a 37-13 lead at the break. CBC shot 60% from the floor with newcomers Erin Morgan and Lexie Heath combining for 22 on the period.Â
As the half wore on, Pedersen and the rest of her front court teammates continuously made hustle plays up and down the court on both ends while dominating the post. The defense was sound as the created 8 turnovers and got out on the fast break. There wasn't much the Lions could do against a 9-deep rotation of players all scoring at a high clip.
Outside of half time, CBC continued to run on the break while their flowing motion offense repeatedly found open looks both inside and out. The Hawks made 12 of 24 3pt attempts lead by Heath and Mickayla Robertson who each had 3 a piece. When the final horn had sounded CBC had crossed into triple digits for the first time in two years on their way to the massive 107-62 win.
The celebration will be short-lived as they get to turn around and face NWAC runner-up Peninsula who will give the Hawks all they can handle. Tipoff will start at 2pm after the Holden Court ceremony that is set to take place at 12:30pm in the gym.
