Walla Walla defeated Columbia Basin in a close one 57-45.
Kiana Lizardo lead the way from the field for CBC with 11 points to go with 3 assists.
Jenn Jacobo and
Jada Liulamaga combined for 17 points off the bench in the effort.
CBC came out with a game plan looking to execute and they got just what they were looking for. The Hawk defenders had Walla Walla in fits as they continuously switched and rotated on defense while making stops early. A late bucket for Walla Walla in the first helped them take an early 18-13 lead. The second quarter was not kind to the Basin shooters as Liulamaga and Jacobo did their best to routinely get to the rim and convert.
The Warriors made their only three attempts from deep in the second as they took a 36-22 lead into half. After a rough patch of 3rd quarters, the CBC coaching staff were not going to let that happen in this one.
Outside of halftime, the Hawks continued to press the Warriors on defense and chipped away at the lead. Walla Walla shot just 1-13 from the field in the Third while Basin spread the ball around and cut the lead to just 5 points heading into the 4th.
The Hawks fell victim to some bad breaks late but they were right in stride with the 1st place Warriors late in the Fourth. A few missed free throws and a couple fast break buckets helped Walla Walla escape in the final few minutes. The loss drops CBC to 5-8 in conference still with an outside shot to earn a playoff birth. They will head to North Idaho on Wednesday to try and avenge their earlier loss to the Cardinals.
