Columbia Basin defeated Blue Mountain in a rematch of their earlier loss 60-53. Makenna Brandner lead the way with 16 points while
Kiana Lizardo added 15 points in just her second game back from Illness.
Basin jumped out ahead early with Brandner scoring 7 of her 16 in the first quarter. Blue Mountain did their best to apply heavy on-ball pressure but Lizardo and
Ali May were able to help the offense settle in and go right at the teeth of the defense. After getting a few stops, CBC raced out to a 19-11 lead after 1 quarter and would never give it up.
Poor shooting from both teams helped Basin take a 10 point lead into the half. Even without head coach
Amy Sokaitis, the Hawks were able to execute their game plan on both ends of the court.
The Timberwolves continued to apply pressure but CBC was able to keep possession as the hauled down 17 offensive rebounds that lead to 15 big second chance points. After 3 quarters, the Hawks held a 15 point lead and in complete control. As expected, the Timberwolves began their final push to make it a game in the 4th with a full court press and continuous pressure. They were able to cut the lead down to as few as 6 but Lizardo was able to keep the game in CBC's control on their way to the 7 point win.
The home win moves Basin to 7-10 on the year (3-4 in the East). They will play the final game of the 2 week homestand this Wednesday when North Idaho comes to town.
