Columbia Basin defeated Pierce in a pair of 5 inning games Saturday. The Hawks 8-runned the Raiders in both games lead by a barrage of home runs from
Harley Raymond and
Ashlynn Nixon.
Game 1:
CBC wasted no time getting started in Game 1 as they put a 5 spot on the board in the bottom of the 1st. Nixon and Raymond both doubled in runs followed up by a
Mary Comack double to make it 5-0 early. Starter
Amanda Brown turned in another complete game performance as her only blemish was an RBI single in the 3rd by the Raiders.Â
Raymond crushed her first home run in the bottom of the 3rd to right field to make it 7-1 Hawks. Nixon added an RBI double in the 4th to push the lead to 8-1. Brown was able to navigate around a few jams in the later innings. She finished with 5 strike outs and scattered 6 hits in the winning effort.
In the bottom of the 5th, Comack was able to put one in play that the second baseman could not come up with as
Faith Thomas scored the final run of the game for the early 5-inning finish 9-1.
Game 2:
In Game 2, the slugging competition between Nixon and Raymond reached a fever pitch as the Hawks again dominated Pierce for an 8-run 5-inning win. The Raiders were able to keep pace early with a run in the first before
Kendra Hart tied it up with an RBI single.
After 2 scoreless innings, Pierce scored 4Â runs in the top of the 4th on a couple of RBI extra base hits.
Macao Jackson was able to come on in relief of starter
Kaitlyn Montgomery to keep the game alive.
Basin came right back with 4Â of their own in the bottom of the 4th with home runs from both Nixon and Raymond who blasted one each over the scoreboard in right.
Faith Thomas also added an RBI double to tie things up at 5-5.
The firework show came in the 5th when the Hawk hitters erupted for 8 runs. Nixon got it started first with a solo shot again over the scoreboard. Then it was Raymond's turn and she followed up with a 3-run bomb of her own over the scoreboard again to make it 9-5. Jackson drove in
Jaelynn Proctor with a sac fly to make it 10-5 before
Kobbey Smith pinch hit and drove in one run herself. Nixon put a bow on the day when she sent a drive to the opposite field over the Blue Monster in left for the game winning 3-run home run.
The sweep of Pierce helps get CBC over 500 at 5-4 on the season. They will try and continue to stay hot at the plate as North powerhouse Douglas comes down from Canada to take on the Hawks in a Sunday double header.
