Columbia Basin split a pair of 5-inning games against Douglas College from Canada.
Macao Jackson got the win in Game 1 as the Hawks improved their record to 5-4 on the year.
Game 1:
Johnna Overby got the start in the DH opener for the Hawks. After a rocky start in the 1st inning, Overby was able to settle in going 3 innings and allowing 4 runs total including the 3-run first inning. Jackson came on to finish off the final 2 innings giving up just 2 hits and 1 run.
In the bottom of the 3rd,
Ashlynn Nixon and
McKenzie Lowry hit back-to-back home runs to to tie the game up at 4-4. The bottom of the 4th featured more long balls by the Basin lineup. This time it was
Jaelynn Proctor who belted a 2-run home run. The Hawks would also add 2 more on an error by the Douglas short stop to push the lead to 8-4.
Douglas scratched one across in the 5th off an infield error by CBC. However,
Kendra Hart's 3-run home run in the 5th drew CBC to within 1 run of getting the 8-run win. It was
Harley Raymond who finally singled in Lowry for the final run of the game and the 13-5 win.
Game 2:
Douglas was able to get their revenge in Game 2 as the Basin lineup could not keep the barrage going long enough. With the score tied 1-1 in the 3rd, Raymond scored on a Douglas error to put the Hawks ahead 2-1. Douglas was able to roar right back in the 4th as the wheels began to fall off for the Hawk pitching staff.
Douglas scored 6 in the 4th on a couple of wild pitches and extra base hits including a 2-run home run. The Royals homered again in the 5th before a sac fly pushed their lead to 11-1.Â
Raymond drove a solo shot over the wall to make it 11-3 but it was not enough as the Royals finished off the 5th inning for the 11-3 victory.
