Columbia Basin split a double header against the Saints of Mt. Hood. The Hawks came up just short in Game 1 with a 4-3 loss but were able to hit well in Game 2 on their way to the 10-2 win.
Game 1:
Macao Jackson hit the circle for the Hawks in Game 1 fresh off her quality start on Saturday. The Saints were able to score 2 early in the first on 4 hits while CBC failed to scratch any early runs. Mt. Hood scored 2 more in the 2nd inning on a couple of defensive miscues by Basin. However, Jackson was able to work through the trouble and would not surrender any more after that.
In the bottom of the 4th,
McKenzie Lowry drove in the first Hawk run on a line drive to center. Jackson followed her up with a sac fly to right to make it 4-2 midway through the game. In the 6th, it was Jackson again who singled in Lowry to cut the lead to just 4-3.Â
In the bottom of the 7th, CBC was able to get runners over to second and third base with 2 outs. With a 3-2 count,
Madi Olson slashed a ground ball in the hole at short. What looked liked a sure single was snared by the 3rd baseman who guessed correctly on the hop was able to just nip Olson at first base on the throw to end the game at 4-3. Jackson pitched a complete game scattering 11 hits and allowing just the 4 runs in the losing effort.
Game 2:
The second leg of the double header faired much better for CBC as
Amanda Brown turned in a gem of a start in the circle. Mt. Hood struck first in the 3rd inning with a solo home run. The Hawks countered with 7 runs in the bottom of the 4th lead by Lowry's 2-run homer to dead center. Short Stop
Ashlynn Nixon also singled in 2 runs on the frame in support.Â
That 7 spot was more than enough for Brown who only allowed just 4 hits in the contest. The Saints score one more in the top of the 6th on a sac fly but Brown was able to get out of the jam. Brown provided her own run support in the 6th with an RBI single before
Kobbey Smith connected with the nail in the coffin as her single brought on the final 2 runs of the early 8-run rule finish 10-2.
CBC combined for 15 hits in the game with 5 Hawks tallying 2 or more hits. The win helps Columbia Basin more to 3-4 on the year as they continue to look like a stronger team with each game. They will have another busy weekend when Pierce and Douglas both come to town for double headers.
