Columbia Basin split a double header with Lower Columbia on their opening home weekend with an 11-10 win and a 11-1 loss.
Macao Jackson got the win in her lone appearance in Game 1 as the Hawks used a late rally for the come back win.
GAME 1:
Lower Columbia came out hot in the first inning with a 5 run 4 hit inning off of Sophomore
Amanda Brown. Brown, who's stuff was working well early just made a few mistakes around the outter half of the plate as LCC had a couple of base hits.
Macao Jackson came on in relief early in the second to try and keep CBC in the game.
Nothing doing early on as Basin scattered a couple of hits in the first 3 innings but couldn't convert with runners on. Jackson was able to hold the Red Devils down for no runs in the 4th inning with the score at 9-0. In the bottom of the 4th, CBC exploded for 7 runs highlighted by a 3-run home run from secondbaseman
Keena Kay.
Kendra Hart and Kenzie Lowry also drove in runs with extra basehits in the inning getting the score closer at 9-7.
LCC failed to score in the 5th and 6th when the Hawks came up in the bottom of the frame.
Madi Olson,
Ashlynn Nixon and
Jaelynn Proctor all drove in runs to help Basin get over the top making it 11-9 heading into the 7th. After giving up a RBI double with 2 outs, Jackson induced a fly ball to left that
Kobbey Smith was able to run down and make a tremendous catch on the wall for the final out of the game and the 11-10 win.
GAME 2:
Game 2 saw LCC get some timely hitting as the Hawks could not deal with the rise ball pitching. Starting pitcher
Johnna Overby turned in a quality start as she went 4 innings just allowing 3 hits. Her lone mistake was a 2-run home run in the first inning but she was crafty and unhittable for the remaining 3.
In the 4th, the Red Devils loaded the bases with 2 outs and a 3-2 count before connecting on a grand slam to make it 6-0. They would get another grand slam in the 7th to make it 11-0. Hart was able to put up 2 hits in the losing effort as CBC score just 1 in the bottom of the 7th for the final of 11-1.
The split moves the Hawks to 2-3 on the season with Mt. Hood coming to town on Sunday for the second leg of the weekend.
