Columbia Basin split another double header with the Chukars of Treasure Valley. After winning Game 1 in 7 innings 10-0, the Hawks dropped Game 2 in extra innings, 7-6.
Game 1
After splitting a double header in Ontario, the Hawks came looking to win three of four against the Chukars. Starter
Cole Pearson was spot on in his new role as a starter allowing just two hits in seven innings of work.
Basin scored early in the first with a two RBI single from
Creed Mogle. In the bottom of the 3rd, three different Hawks each drove in runs for the five run inning.
Brayden Mayencourt lead the charge with a two out two RBI single on the way to a 7-0 lead after three.
Pearson never allowed more than one runner at a time despite giving up two leadoff doubles by Treasure. His command of the zone kept the Chukars off balance on their way to 5 strike outs and just one walk.
Basin scored a quick one in the 6th but it was
Bryce Fry in a pinch hit situation in the 7th with a clutch two RBI single to end the game early at 10-0.
Game 2
Treasure Valley sent a left-handed off-speed pitcher out to face Basin in Game 2. The Hawks have struggled against lefties at times and this outing was no different. Treasure Valley did not surrender a hit until the 6th.
Even without netting a hit, CBC still had opportunities in the early innings. However, untimely mistakes on the bases kept the Hawks scoreless as they were picked off or thrown out at home 3 times.Â
In the bottom of the 9th, down 4-1, Mayencourt singled in one to make it 4-2. With the bases loaded and
Payton Kallaher up, Treasure threw away the game ending ground ball at 3rd base to allow two Hawks to score on the play tying it up at 4-4. Mogle had a chance for the win but despite a hard hit line drive, the center fielder was able to take two steps to his right and take away a double.
The Chukars came right back with three runs in the top of the 10th with back-to-back hits to take a 7-4 lead.
Brooks Rasmussen was able to bring home Mogle from 3rd on a sac fly to make it 7-5. The very next pitch,
Alex Rodriguez blasted a solo shot to left with two outs to inch closer at 7-6. Unfortunately, the Basin luck would run out as Treasure Valley was able to strike out the next batter for the extra innings win.Â
