Columbia Basin held off Yakima Valley in a great game 76-71.
Bobby Siebers lead all scorers with 20 points on 6 of 10 shooting.
Jayden Martinez added 15 points in support.
Yakima Valley presents a size matchup issue with most teams and being a guard-oriented team would make it tough for the Hawks. Both teams traded jabs early in the game with CBC keeping a small lead throughout the half. At the 11 minute mark, Siebers came in and got hot immediately. The freshman guard hit his first couple of 3's back-to-back to give Basin a 26-15 lead. Yakima countered with a small run of their own to keep pace.
With 3 minutes to go in the half and the score at 30-27, CBC rallied for an 18-8 run to finish the half with a 13 point lead at 48-35.
Outside of halftime, the Hawks came out uncharacteristically flat against the YVC zone. The Yaks went with a bigger lineup and were able to create turnovers and eventually tying the game up at 51 with 13 minutes to go. After a quick media timeout, the Hawks were able to get their heads back on straight and hit some shots. Siebers went on a personal 9-0 run for Basin to help stay ahead by 5 points. Yakima moved off their big lineup and seemingly were unable to get any big shots in big moments.
CBC stayed ahead by 5-7 points as their defense dug in to get stops. The closest Yakima would get it was 73-69 with 30 seconds to go but a couple of free throws sealed the deal for Basin in the 76-71 victory.
The win moves CBC to 2-2 in conference play with Big Bend coming in on Wednesday to take on the Hawks beginning at 7:30.
