Columbia Basin defeated Big Bend 81-56 in a strong defensive showing.
Latrell Barker lead all scorers with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Jayden Martinez added 12 in support.
An uncharacteristic slow start wouldn't be enough to keep CBC down on the night. The Vikings were able to get up 7 in the first 5 minutes but
Javon Handcox scored 7 of his 9 off the bench in the first half to help kickstart the offense. Their signature pressure forced the Vikings into 25 turnovers on the night while looking overwhelmed. Even with a poor outside shooting night, the Hawks were still able to create offense from their defense on their way to a 38-32 lead at half.
Outside of halftime, the focus would be on whether or not Basin could avoid a slow start like the Yakima game on Monday. Today would not be the same as they were the aggressor while getting buckets on good looks. A 14-4 run pushed their lead up to 52-36 with 13 minutes to go and they would not look back. Barker took over in the paint scoring 12 of his 14 in the second half while dominating in the paint.
The Vikings had no answers and could not muster a run against the hellacious pressure of the Hawk defense. On the offensive end, the Basin backcourt attacked the paint downhill which lead to easy shots at the rim and second possessions from a few offensive rebounds.
Bobby Siebers connected on both of his 3-point attempts in the half which would be the only 3's for CBC who only shot 6-24 from deep.
The win bumps CBC back into the winning column at 3-2 in East Region play. They will host the Treasure Valley Chukars on Saturday in an afternoon battle with tipoff at 4pm.
