Columbia Basin defeated Yakima Valley 60-53 to get back to 500 in East Region play.
Lexie Heath lead all scorers with 21 points along with 5 steals.
Trinidie Nichols added 16 points 12 rebounds and 5 assists in supports.
After a rocky start to conference play, CBC came out needing a win against a surging Yakima Valley. Out of the gate, CBC applied quality pressure on the Yaks with a well-schemed plan of attack. On the offensive end, Basin was able to get good looks around the rim without relying on outside looks. Despite a few missed lay-ins, they carried the lead and momentum into the Second.
The fouls started to mount in the second quarter but again CBC was able to keep the game under their control even when Yakima hit a few shots. Heath buried her only 3 attempt of the period as CBC held on to a 3 point halftime lead.
Most of the scoring took place in the third quarter as each team traded buckets back and forth. A little early press helped create turnovers for the Hawks to convert into easy shots. However, Yakima was able to cut it back to a 6 point lead after the period. Heath and Nichols dominated the final quarter combining for 10 points and a couple of steals to keep any Yakima run at bay on their way to the 7 point win at home.
The win bumps CBC back to 2-2 in conference with Big Bend coming to Pasco on Wednesday for a 5:30 start time.Â
