Highline defeated Columbia Basin at home in Game 2 of the CBC Crossover 73-70.
Ta'Veus Randle lead the way with 22 points and 5 steals.
Javon Handcox added 8 points and 10 boards in support.
Both winners from Day 1 squared off with Highline getting the edge late. The Thunderbirds packed it in with a 3/4 court press and a 3-2 zone that CBC had no answers for. Despite the struggles, CBC stayed right with Highline trailing by no more than 8 at any point. Heading into half, Basin trailed 43-38.
The story of the second half turned into injuries as the Hawks lost both
Jayden Martinez and
Anton Williams midway through the second period. Randle did his best to pick up the slack giving CBC a 5 point lead but just as it seemed the tides would turn, Highline would hit a big 3. A
Coleton Hansen 3 tied it up with 2:30 seconds to go. The Hawks were able to make a stop but could not score in transition leading to a cherry pick and-1 for the T-Birds. No more layins would fall for CBC as Highline hung on to the 73-70 final.
Columbia Basin will get another crack on Day 3, this time against a Clark team who lost their previous two games in the Crossover. Tipoff scheduled for 2pm.
