Hawks open up Crossover with win over Everett

Columbia Basin defeated Everett to open up Crossover play at home Thursday night 84-73. Ta'Veus Randle scored 20 points while Anton Williams and Latrell Barker each posted double-doubles.

Finally taking the court at full strength, the Hawks had an entire roster suited and ready to compete. Everett jumped ahead 6-0 but once Williams scored in transition to make it 9-8, Basin never looked back. Between Barker and Williams, Everett struggled to find anything in the half-court and had to rely on transition offense to score. On the offensive end, the Hawks were able to get strong looks inside which free'd up the paint for the guards to slash.

Just as it seemed as though CBC would pull away, Everett would answer back with a run of their own keeping it inside a two-possession game. Jayden Martinez was unable to get a reverse layup to go at the buzzer as Basin carried a 38-37 lead into half.

In the second half, Williams went to work in the paint. The sophomore big man scored 10 of his 16 in the period as he used his physicality and size to get to the rim for a couple of and-1's. As fast as Basin could score, Everett kept right in step until the 13th minute. As the Trojans hit a deep 3 to cut the lead to 1, CBC went on a 19-4 run with some transition looks and a few second-chance 3's. The Hawks stretched their lead to as many as 19 before rotating the lineup around.

The Trojans were able to cut it to 10 with a minute to go but there would be no comeback as the Hawks settled into the 84-73 final. On Day 2, CBC will take on Highline who beat Clark in the earlier game 92-76. Tipoff scheduled for 4pm.
