Columbia Basin defeated Linn-Benton in their home opener 72-46.
Ta'Veus Randle lead the way for CBC with 16 points and 5 rebounds while 3 other Hawks scored in double figures.
A low scoring first half saw both teams struggle to get anything going on offense. Neither team lead by more than 6 points during the period as CBC was in foul trouble early. They were able to get some big 3's from
Javon Handcox but the Roadrunners were able to get some offensive rebounds that lead to second chance points inside. Randle was slow to get going only scoring 4 of his 16 in the first half that saw Linn-Benton tie it up at the buzzer going into the break at 34.
Outside of halftime, Basin switched to a zone defense and 3 quarter court press that helped create some transition looks for easy buckets. On defense, they were able to hold Linn-Benton scoreless from beyond the arc in the 2nd half. Each team still turned in empty possessions but it was Basin who began to churn and get looks inside with
Anton Williams who made all 3 of his looks inside. Basin went on a 14-4 run to open up the half and then another 19-4 run as the Roadrunners did not score for 5 minutes straight with 6 minutes to go. When the dust settled, CBC finished with the 26 point win at 72-46.
CBC will take on South perennial Clackamas in the final game of the December Invite at 6pm on Saturday.Â
