Columbia Basin defeated SW Oregon to advance to the Final Four by a score of 81-70.
Ta'Veus Randle continued his MVP caliber postseason with a 29 point game off the bench to lead all scorers.
Javon Handcox,
Lawson Vella and
Teagen Hoard all added 10+ points off the CBC bench.
The Hawks got a favorable matchup in the Elite 8 after SW Oregon upset 23-5 Green River. The Lakers were able to get ahead early 8-2 as coach Anthony Owens sent his starters to the bench in the first 3 minutes of the game allowing the non-starters to come in and take over the game. The CBC bench scored 69 of the team's 81 point lead by Randle who was on fire.Â
CBC's elite defense completely wore down SWOCC's point guard rendering him ineffective and their offense unable to get any continuity going. The continuous pressure made things hard for the Lakers all day. A little run late in the first half by CBC helped them separate to a 39-31 lead headed into half.Â
Outside of halftime, SW Oregon was able to hang around keeping the lead stuck at just 4-5 points for most of the half. Every time it seemed like Basin would begin to separate, the Lakers were able to get a timely 3 or an and-1 to keep them in the game. With 8 minutes to go, Laker big man Onwaja Thomas picked up his fourth foul allowing Hoard, Randle and
Jayden Martinez to attack the paint.
The 3 guards were able to get huge buckets in crunch time while the Lakers were unable to get stops when they needed to. Randle shot 10-18 from the field including 6 of 8 from down time including the dagger 3 with 3:30 left to put CBC up 73-62 as they finished off the game for the 81-70 final score.
The win moves CBC on to the Final Four where they will meet fellow 4-seed and 2021 runner-up Bellevue. Tipoff scheduled for 5pm after the CBC women who play at 1pm. Tickets on sale now at
