Columbia Basin split a double header with North Idaho. CBC took game 1 by a score of 13-3 in 5 innings while NIC took Game 2 10-1 also in 5 innings.
The Hawks came out hot in Game 1 scoring 10 of their 13 runs in the first inning alone. Every single CBC batter reached base in the frame highlighted by a grand slam from
Harley Raymond and a 3-run home run from
Ashlynn Nixon. The 10 runs would be more than enough for
Macao Jackson in the circle as she continued her hot start on the year allowing just 3 runs in the shortened game.
Basin added two more in the second on a 2-RBI single from
Kodi Fraser. North Idaho's minimal damage came on a 2-run home run that just sailed out of reach in center but only gave the Cardinals 2 runs. Jackson went on to finish the outing scattering just 3 hits for the complete game win.
Game 2 favored NIC as the roles reversed. It was the Cardinals who got to Jackson early in the game for 2 runs in the first and 3 more in the third as she was lifted in favor of freshman
Graci Brady. Brady incurred some damage of her own trying to get out of the third as NIC touched up CBC for 8 runs in the frame giving them a 10-1 lead. Brady did settle in however and was able to hold North Idaho scoreless in the following two innings.Â
CBC struggled at the plate as it seemed North Idaho was being given some extra calls off the outside of the plate. Multiple Hawk hitters expressed frustration with the strike zone throughout the game but were unable to capitalize on a few baserunners early in innings. The lone CBC run came with an
Alexis Blankenship leadoff home run in the first but that would be it for Basin as they fell 10-1 in 5 innings.
The split moves CBC to 3-1 in conference play (10-4 overall) still remaining atop the East Region standings. They will travel to Yakima Valley on Tuesday for a chance to continue their dominance over the Yaks so far this year.
